"After the Show"
By Darci Faulkner

The 1960's were the heyday of the Rat Pack. Frank, Dino, Sammy, Peter and Joey were frequent headliners at the Sands Hotel. Often, when one of the members was scheduled to give a performance, the rest of the Pack would show up for an impromptu show. They sold out most of their appearances, and people would come pouring into Las Vegas, sometimes sleeping in cars and hotel lobbies when they could not find rooms, just to be part of the Rat Pack's entertainment experience. Often the marquees of the hotels at which they were performing as individuals might read "DEAN MARTIN - MAYBE FRANK - MAYBE SAMMY."

While viewing this painting, "After the Show", it's easy to imagine the boys unwinding with a friendly game of poker as a few of their friends look on. Considering Dean and Marilyn were working together on the romantic comedy "Something's Got to Give" it's not hard to
imagine that Marilyn, who was romantically linked to Elvis, would be invited back to this private party.

In this mixed media painting the artist, Darci Faulkner, as she so often does, conveys the feeling of being a part of the action, being right there. Masterfully, her composition also reveals the fun inherit in the game of poker.
