"You're Right I Don't Have Spades"
By Darci Faulkner

Rounders, the 1998 film about the underground world of high-stakes poker has been credited with the boom in popularity of Texas hold 'em. Starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, the movie follows two friends who need to quickly earn enough cash playing poker to pay off a huge debt. The term "rounder" refers to a person whose sole means of earning a living is by playing cards. In this mixed media painting the artist, Darci Faulkner, captures her impression of the main characters, at very poignant moments, of this cult hit. "Teddy KGB" (John Malkovich) is showing his winning cards that busts the movies hero Mike

(Matt Damon) while "Knish", (John Turturro) Mike's former poker mentor, looks on with interest. This painting also features "Worm" (Ed Norton), Mike's friend, who is constantly getting him into deeper financial problems by running up gambling debts on Mike's tab. "Grama" (Michael Rispoli) is the loan shark who adds the threat of physical harm if the debts are not paid on time.
